EB07 Mystical Magus is the 7th extra booster set that has been released for Cardfight Vanguard. This extra booster only contains cards from the Oracle Think Tank clan. This set will help the Oracles from getting back on top of the Meta. There is not much in depth analysis to talk about for this set so let’s jump into the key cards to look out for in this set.
As the name suggests it, there is a break ride in this set. Let’s look at it!
Hexagonal Magus, not a very creative name
[AUTO] Limit Break 4 :When a «Oracle Think Tank» rides this unit, look at three cards from the top of your deck, search for one card from among them, put it into your hand, put the rest on the top of your deck in any order, choose your vanguard, and that unit gets [Power]+10000 until end of turn.[CONT](VC):During your turn, if the number of cards in your hand is four or greater, this unit gets [Power]+2000.[CONT](VC/RC): Lord (If you have a unit without a same clan as this unit, this unit cannot attack)
Her Limit break is awesome: she allows you to search for a card and allows you to know the next 2 cards that are on top of your deck. This allows you to have knowledge of which cards, and potential triggers, are on top of your deck. This also opens up mind games with your opponent because you may trick him into thinking you have a certain kind of trigger waiting to activate.
Her second ability allows her to reach 21k power with an 8k Rear-Guard which is always good to have.
Her first ability combos well with this next card:
Battle Sister, Monaka
[ACT] (VC) Limit Break 4 [Counter Blast (1) & Choose a card named “Battle Sister, Monaka” from your hand, and discard it] Look at five cards from the top of your deck, search for two cards from among them, put them into your hand, and put the rest on the bottom of your deck in any order.
[ACT] (VC):[Counter Blast (2)-cards with “Battle Sister” in its card name] This unit gets [Power]+5000 until end of turn.
[CONT] (VC/RC): Lord (If you have a unit without a same clan as this unit, this unit cannot attack)
We can see why Hexagonal Magus works well with this card: it allows you to have a greater chance at having a second copy of Battle Sister Monaka in your hand so that you may activate her Persona Blast ability. If you can successfully perform both of those abilities you will have great hand advantage over your opponent. Her second ability works well with the whole Battle sister archetype.
A decent grade 2 card in this set is Oracle Agent, Roys
[AUTO](VC/RC):[Counter Blast (1)] When this unit’s attack hits a vanguard, you may pay the cost. If you do, look at up to five cards from the top of your deck, search for up to one grade 3 or greater «Oracle Think Tank» from among them, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your deck.
This card allows you to pressure your opponent into guarding it and if he does not, you get to search for a grade 3 for whatever reason: it could be that you do not have one or that you are setting up for a bigger combo like a persona blast.
Nevertheless this card is definitely a pain to deal with and I can see this card being “teched” in to some decks, playing 1-2 copies of it.
In the End
This set will definitely give Oracle Think Tank players many more options and the deck lists will vary. Most players will agree that a Meta with the same deck being played over and over is definitely not a fun one so hopefully EB07 Mystical Magus will give OTT decks some spice!
